Ringwood became the first town to obtain Fairtrade status within the New Forest. This was due entirely to the fact that Fairtrade products were on sale in local shops and used in businesses and commercial premises throughout the town. A number of those businesses were also involved with the Town Council on the Steering Group.
The Fairtrade registration now needs to be renewed, but the Town Council has found that the original Steering Group no longer exists. It therefore wants to re-establish the Steering Group and is seeking nominees from the business community to join the Steering Group, which would enable the renewal of the Fairtrade registration.
Ringwood School has a strong ethos in the Fairtrade arena, and has indicated its willingness to be part of the new Steering Group.
